Please Pay Attention. Pay Attention. Will You Pay Attention Already!!

Paying attention to the world around us should be common sense for all of us. It seems like with each passing day, people get too distracted to pay attention to what should be important, even when it is spelled out directly to them.

A good example is social media groups. I am a member of several different groups that share information on a variety of subjects and interests. A couple recent Facebook groups that I have joined are local information and support groups pertaining to the Coronavirus Covid-19 crisis.

These groups were originally set up as a way our community can share information, tips, and support each other in various ways. Like most of these groups, many of the same questions are asked, followed by either helpful answers, heckling, or downright bullying.

It seems that people hidden behind a computer screen or mobile device have lost all of their manners. If you are going to be an internet bully, please don’t join a support group. At the same time, if you join a support group, please do a search of the group for an answer to your question before actually asking the question. This is all common sense and not brain surgery.

The most concerning thing that I see on these group posts is how reading comprehension is completely forgotten. Information is shared. Attention should focus on the actual question before chiming in.

Post: “I just came back from Store A and they just fully stocked the eggs in case anyone is looking for some.”
Comment: “Did you happen to see if they had any eggs?”
Yes, this really happens all the time!! .

Another example. This time, making stuff up!

Post: “Just got back from shopping and there is no ground beef anywhere! I can’t believe all the hoarding going on!”
Comment: “What stores did you go to?”
Response: “Just my local Ralphs.”

So just because you went to one store, that automatically means that nobody in the entire city has ground beef because people hoarded it all? Do people still think about the words that they are going to use before saying them anymore?

This world needs to wise up! Stop distracting yourself! Stop making things up! Be a little nicer to each other! And for the love of God, PAY ATTENTION!!!!
